Disc Injury

Intervertebral discs, the small pads located between your vertebrae, consist of a tough outer layer and a gel-like center. These discs connect and separate the vertebrae, serving as cushions or shock absorbers to prevent the bones from rubbing against each other during movement. Without them, we wouldn't be able to move our upper torso effectively.

  • A protruding disc occurs when the gel inside the disc bulges or pushes out unevenly, which can pinch or irritate nearby nerve roots.

  • A herniated disc involves a rupture of the disc, allowing the gel to push outward. This can cause significant pain, numbness, and nerve irritation, sometimes leading to serious complications.

  • A disc extrusion is the most severe type of disc injury, where the gel balloons significantly outside the disc or detaches altogether. This often results in intense back pain and a reduced range of motion.

Sports Injury

Sports injuries, though often concentrated in specific areas, can significantly impact spinal health. As the spine serves as the central framework for the body and its nerve functions, injuries in other areas can indirectly affect its alignment and performance. A misstep on the field or an awkward landing on the court can result in spinal misalignments, leading to pain and dysfunction that extend beyond the original injury.

These misalignments can compress nerves, restrict mobility, and disrupt the body’s natural balance. Over time, compensatory movements can place additional strain on the spine, intensifying the injury and impairing athletic performance. At Ozark Family Chiropractic, we focus on addressing the root causes of these issues, helping to restore your spine's strength and resilience so it supports your recovery and performance without becoming a source of ongoing discomfort.

At Ozark Family Chiropractic, your path to spinal health is as unique as your athletic journey. We work closely with you to create a customized treatment plan designed to address your specific needs and goals. A common factor among all the mentioned causes of disc injury and sport injuries is vertebral misalignment in the spine. Fortunately, the doctors at Ozark Family Chiropractic are highly trained to address these issues effectively. This expertise is supported by multiple studies showing chiropractic care to be one of the most effective treatment options for various causes of all of the above. As with any condition, a conservative, effective, and non-invasive approach is recommended as the first step in treatment.
